Timo Werner’s departure from RB Leipzig is at long last confirmed. Werner’s Bundesliga outfit confirmed the pre-mature termination of his expiring contract in order to facilitate a move to the San Jose Earthquakes of America’s MLS. The former German international’s career chapter in his native country finally draws to a close.

“Leipzig is more than just a stop on my career for me,” Werner noted in an RB statement. “I’ve had some special moments here, played some great games, and felt some unforgettable emotions. Now the time has come to start a new chapter in my career. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, staff, and above all, the fans.”

“Timo Werner is and remains closely linked to the success story of RB Leipzig,” sporting director Marcel Schäfer added in his own statement. “He played a major role in the club’s first outstanding Bundesliga seasons, became a German national team player here, played in the Champions League for the first time with Leipzig, and later won two trophies [the 2023 DFB Pokal and the 2023 DFL Supercup].“
