As per a report from L’Équipe, OGC Nice are honing in on appointing their new sporting director, despite uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.
On Friday, Le Gym host AS Saint-Étienne, needing a win in order to retain their top-flight status. In the event of staying up, it was supposed to be former Stade Brestois sporting director Grégory Lorenzi who took over from Florian Maurice (whose departure has not yet been confirmed), however, he has since come to an agreement with Olympique de Marseille. He is, therefore, attempting to back out of his deal with Nice, which explains the hold-up on OM’s side. His move to the Vélodrome is not yet official.
Le Gym have had to evaluate alternative targets, and Geoffrey Moncada, who recently left his role as technical director at AC Milan, is the favourite to join Nice, L’Équipe understands. There are, however, two other targets: AJ Auxerre’s David Wantier and Bruno Cheyrou, current Senior Player Development Manager at FIFA, but who previously worked at Olympique Lyonnais.
