OL Lyonnes needed extra time in Décines on Thursday to see off Wolfsburg and book a place in the Women’s Champions League semi-finals.
Compared with the 1-0 first-leg defeat in Wolfsburg, Jonatan Giráldez made three changes before kick-off. The inclusions of Lily Yohannes and Korbin Schrader, who had impressed in a 2-2 draw at Strasbourg days earlier, plus Jule Brand, were vindicated from the start. As reported by Le Progres.
Lyon stretched the night into the chill of early spring, then cut loose in a flurry of goals to settle a draining tie after 120 minutes.
Captain Wendie Renard said they needed to respond after lacking aggression in the first leg, that the team kept a single aim in mind and she was proud of their mindset.
The result brings a last-four reunion with Arsenal.
