Malick Fofana missed Lyon’s 6-3 friendly win over St Gallen on Saturday morning, despite training with the group after ankle surgery last season. According to Le Progres, the staff are taking no risks with the forward.

Paulo Fonseca said Fofana is fine and has trained daily, but the club are managing him differently and do not want to rush him. He added he thinks the forward could feature on Wednesday against Servette Geneva.

Patience is wearing thin as OL’s fixture list demands quick answers in attack. Fofana suffered a serious injury against Strasbourg last autumn, then returned briefly in what proved a false start. The club are wary of a repeat.

He watched from the touchline while his team-mates played and is eager to return. The timing of his reintroduction remains a key concern for the medical staff.
