Oliver Kahn has urged Jamal Musiala to skip this summer's World Cup with Germany, saying the player should prioritise regaining form after injury.
According to BuLi News, the former Bayern and Germany goalkeeper believes the 23-year-old is still seeking his best level after the serious ankle injury suffered at the Club World Cup last summer.
Kahn argued that, on this season's performances, a World Cup place should not be the priority. He added that if a player feels aspects of his game are not right, he must work on himself to be ready again.
Another former Germany international, Dietmar Hamann, echoed those concerns, suggesting Musiala is not currently in the form to help the team and that repeatedly picking him may not do him or the side any favours.
Hamann said the World Cup should not be a topic for Musiala right now and that he needs to focus on finding his form, with seven weeks left and little room for error.
He also noted that Musiala's salary brings heightened expectations, pointing out the midfielder has been back in training for almost five months and that the foot can no longer be an excuse, while acknowledging the injury was very serious.
