Stade Lavallois president Laurent Lairy has ended Olivier Frapolli’s seven-season tenure, confirming he will not lead the team next season.
According to L'Équipe, Lairy revealed the decision at a Friday press conference held before a season review, after Laval secured survival via a play-off against FC Rouen, 1-1 then 1-0.
Frapolli arrived in 2019 with the side in National, the future Ligue 3, and became the longest-serving coach across France’s top three tiers. He delivered the National title and promotion to Ligue 2 in 2022.
Laval have since stayed up four seasons in a row, the latest proving gruelling, finishing 16th and claiming a play-off spot only on the final day. Frapolli was under contract until 2027.
Lairy said he and Frapolli met at length on Friday morning and, after a period of reflection and a season review, both felt it was time to move on, a decision he proposed and accepts responsibility for. He added they prefer to turn the page while keeping the best memories, and will now seek a new coach with a manager profile.
