Amine Gouiri delivered an assist then a fine finish, yet Marseille let a 2-0 lead slip as Strasbourg drew 2-2 with a stoppage-time penalty after an Emerson foul.

L'Équipe notes that Gouiri gave Lucas Högsberg a torrid evening. He released Mason Greenwood for 1-0 on 14 minutes after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang intercepted Samir El-Mourabet’s loose pass, and Mike Penders denied Greenwood a second just before the break.

Soon after the restart, Emerson’s press forced Penders into a hurried clearance, Gouiri gathered, weaved through and curled in for 2-0 on 47. Quinten Timber then wasted a promising counter on 57.

The game turned with the changes. Himad Abdelli, on for Saïd Nadir at 71, lost a shoulder duel to Martial Godo in the move that preceded Sebastian Nanasi’s reply on 74. Gerónimo Rulli then produced a vital save from Guéla Doué’s header on 76, while Igor Paixao, on for Aubameyang, was booked and later shot at Penders on 90+1.

Deep into added time, Emerson tripped Gessime Yassine on 90+4. Joaquin Panichelli’s central penalty on 90+7 was poorly struck, but Rulli’s left hand was not firm enough to keep it out.

Interim coach Abardonado’s cautious 4-2-3-1 had worked after a nervous start, the Pavard-Aguerd pairing looked sound and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg captained with Leonardo Balerdi out due to a severe ear infection. The 85th-minute switch, Facundo Medina for Gouiri, drew groans and the Vélodrome soon sensed what was coming.
