Former Croatia star Nenad Bjelica has backed Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic to reach the top, citing Bayern Munich as the level he could attain.

Tottenham agreed a deal for Vuskovic in 2023 and formally brought him to the club in 2025, though the Croatian spent the season on loan at Hamburg amid stiff competition from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

He made 30 appearances for Die Rothosen and registered seven goal contributions, with one former Spurs star insisting Vuskovic is ‘too good’ for a Hamburg side that finished 13th in the Bundesliga.

Although he is yet to make a competitive appearance for Tottenham, the 19-year-old made clear in May that regular minutes remain a priority as he continues his development.

Vuskovic is currently with the Croatia national team squad as they prepare for their opening World Cup match tonight against England in Texas.

Bjelica praised the Spurs defender’s progress, highlighting his rapid development in both the Bundesliga and the Croatian national team set-up.

The former Croatia international believes the 19-year-old is advancing at an exceptional rate and could emerge as one of the standout players at the World Cup.

Bjelica said to German outlet Sport Bild: “Luka Vuskovic will be one of the shooting stars of the World Cup.

“The boy is improving at an incredible pace in the Bundesliga and also in the Croatian national team.”

Bjelica also suggested that Vuskovic’s trajectory could eventually take him to one of Europe’s elite clubs, with Bayern Munich cited as the kind of destination capable of matching the teenager’s lofty potential.

“I’m sure that one day he’ll play for one of the world’s best clubs.

“Of course, he is also one for FC Bayern.”

Spurs have reinforced their defensive options with the arrivals of Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi, while Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke is also expected to join the ranks.

With the battle for minutes becoming increasingly fierce, it has been suggested that the Croatian could be open to a move away, leading Brighton to make their interest concrete with a £35m offer.

The proposal fell some distance short of Tottenham’s valuation, however, with a Hamburg staff member previously claiming Vuskovic is worth no less than €70m.

Spurs wasted little time in rejecting the approach, but given the defender’s rising profile, further interest appears inevitable.
