Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Newcastle United for our latest dip into the archives, we rewind to January 2024 and one of the most memorable goals in recent City history.
How can I watch Newcastle v City on TV?
It was a moment that blended sublime skill, quick thinking and brilliant technical ability – and was one that firmly cemented Oscar Bobb’s place in the heart of every City fan.
Down the years clashes between Newcastle and City rarely failed to disappoint and this one had it all and more.
A rip-roaring, incident-packed St James’ Park contest had already seen Pep Guardiola’s side fight back from 2-1 down to draw level thanks to a quite stunning long strike from Kevin De Bruyne.
The brilliant Belgian fired home just five minutes after having been summoned from the bench on what was his first league appearance in five months.
However, that was just a precursor to the drama that was to come.
With City seeking the win that would step up our push for an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title, mercurial young playmaker Bobb was then brought on with just eight minutes remaining.

And 60 seconds into stoppage time, KDB and Bobb combined in glorious fashion to conjure up a goal that took the breath away.
De Bruyne – as he was so often across his stellar City career – proved the initial architect, picking out the advancing Bobb with a quite brilliant curling long-range pass.
His pinpoint delivery allowed the Norwegian the space and time to advance past Kieran Trippier on the left edge of the penalty area - but there was still much to do for the Academy graduate.
Bobb though was more than equal to the task.
He showed incredible footwork and dexterity to first jink past Magpies keeper Martin Dubravka before switching feet to instantly despatch the ball into the net to seal a precious three points.
It was his first Premier League goal and served as one of the iconic moments of the 2023/24 season – and its impact was not lost on admiring City boss Pep Guardiola.

How Oscar Bobb Came Back | Out now on CITY+
“It was a fantastic goal – and the control he showed,” Pep reflected.
“Oscar is so good in small spaces, so quick with the right and the left foot.
“He also has a sense of goal in the training sessions.
“We were really impressed in pre-season when we started to see it.
“I knew from the information last season in the Under-23s he was the best player by far in the Academy and in pre-season we could see this guy is special
“The finish and control in the small spaces was just exceptional. I am so happy for him.”
