Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace for our latest dip into the archives, we rewind to April 2024 and a milestone moment for one of our greatest ever players, Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne bagged a brace in our 4-2 victory at Crystal Palace which brought up his landmark 100 goals for City.

KDB produced a rocket to cancel out Jean-Philippe Mateta’s early opener for the hosts at Selhurst Park as we went in level at the break.

Rico Lewis put us ahead shortly after the restart before Erling Haaland marked his return to the team with a close-range finish following a clever cut-back by De Bruyne.

The Belgian notched up his century with a stunning left-foot drive to spark joyous scenes among the visitors.

Substitute Odsonne Edouard pulled one back at the end but it was too little, too late for the hosts as City returned to Manchester with a very welcome maximum haul.

He became just the 18th man in our history to reach three figures for goals scored and has since been joined on that list by both Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.

The 100 goal milestone came in his 372nd appearance for City and made him the first City midfielder since Colin Bell to reach a century of goals.

At the end of that 2023/24 season, City completed Four-in-a-Row, winning a never-before-seen quartet of titles in a row.

De Bruyne played the next season in sky blue before embarking on a new adventure in La Liga with Napoli, leaving us having made 422 appearances and scoring a total of 108 goals.

One of the greatest midfielders in the game’s history, De Bruyne won a remarkable 19 major honours with City, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and three Community Shields.

His greatest scoring season came in 2021/22 when he found the net 19 times - 15 times in the league alone - as he earned his fourth Premier League title.

In total, he scored 72 Premier League goals, 16 in the Champions League, 10 in the Carabao Cup and 10 in the FA Cup.

KDB himself was interviewed by City Studios after the game to discuss his 100 goal haul.

“It’s a proud moment,” he told us.

“It means that I’ve had longevity here. It means a lot of good moments for this club.

“I’ve had so many good moments with the team and we won many trophies and parades.

“It’s hard to put into context but I appreciate everything that has happened and I think the supporters and club do too.”
