One player who Manchester City had an interest in signing ahead of the summer transfer window was Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. On paper, the England international would’ve added creativity and spark to City’s midfield. Now a new report has ruled out City renewing their interest in Gibbs-White. It is reported that Manchester City will not sign another midfielder this summer. Instead, they are focused on selling players this summer rather than beefing up their midfield.

Manchester City will not renew their interest in Morgan Gibbs-White.

Tyrone Marshall has reported for Manchester Evening News that Manchester City will not make a fresh move for Morgan Gibbs-White. Furthermore, Marshall reports that despite Gibbs-White being available for £60 million City won’t be tempted to move for the England international. Marshall adds that Morgan Gibbs-White’s expected move to Tottenham is currently held up. Nottingham Forest have reacted angrily to the fact that Tottenham learned of a £60 million release clause in Gibbs-White’s contract. It is further reported by Tyrone Marshall that Nottingham Forest have threatened to report Tottenham to the Premier League over the affair. Lastly, Marshall reports that Manchester City are currently focused on trimming the size of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The City squad is too big as Tyrone Marshall reports that two midfielders could possibly leave the club this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s squad is stacked with quality options in midfield. Currently, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Nico, Ilkay Gundogan, Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva would be Guardiola’s midfield options. Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki are also viable options to play in the number ten role. There is simply no room for Morgan Gibbs-White in Manchester City’s squad currently.

Another fact stood out in Tyrone Marshall’s report. Marshall reports that there is a chance that Nico or Ilkay Gundogan could leave City this summer. It would come as a major surprise if City let Nico leave only six months after signing him from FC Porto. That move doesn’t make sense for a plethora of reasons. Ilkay Gundogan is seemingly the prime candidate from the two players mentioned. But he has a year left on his current contract and all indications are that he will remain at City for next season.

So perhaps Manchester City will not see a midfielder leave this summer. If that remains the case City will be well stocked with options in midfield. But Morgan Gibbs-White won’t be another option City add to their midfield stocks. There is no room for him in Pep Guardiola’s squad, and Hugo Viana and company are focused on trimming the City squad rather than adding to it.
