Gabri Veiga broke the deadlock in the 48th minute with a left-footed finish, setting Porto up for a 2-0 win over Tondela.
Arriving between the lines, Veiga met Deniz Gül's pass and guided a low shot into the bottom-right corner (48.). It was the substitute's first touch of incision after coming on at half time, and it changed the game's rhythm.
He then kept Porto on the front foot, winning an attacking free kick to pin Tondela back (76.). His delivery later picked out Jan Bednarek, whose close-range header missed by inches (88.). Late on, he saw a goalbound effort from outside the box blocked (95.).
Veiga finished with one goal from two attempts, two successful dribbles and a big chance created, underlining how his timing between midfield and the forward line gave Porto control in the key phases.
Porto host Sporting CP in the Taça de Portugal next. Tondela host Nacional next.
