With every impressive outing, Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram is proving that the club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio was correct in his assessment.

The 27-year-old signed for the Nerazzurri last summer on a free transfer. This was the fruit of Ausilio’s work, as he had tracked the player for several years prior to his arrival.

When Thuram first arrived at Appiano Gentile, most pundits considered him a mere backup option for Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

However, the Belgian’s permanent return to Inter collapsed following a long summer soap opera that saw him heavily linked with a move to Juventus before eventually ending up at Roma.

Therefore, Simone Inzaghi had entrusted Thuram with a starting role, and the latter immediately repaid the faith placed in him.

At the time, many fans and observers alike felt the Frenchman could struggle to fit within Inter’s 3-5-2 system. After all, he had been playing on the left wing during his time at Borussia Monchengladbach.

But as Il Corriere dello Sport (via FcInterNews) notes, Thuram proved his doubters wrong by presenting himself as a reliable and competent striking partner for Lautaro.

How Inter Milan Striker Marcus Thuram Proved Piero Ausilio Right

Moreover, the France international proved Ausilio was right to consider him for the striker’s role. The director always had a hunch that Thuram would thrive in a more central role.

The Nerazzurri star produced 13 goals and seven assists last season. He played an integral part in the club’s second-star triumph.

Following last term’s exploits, some naysayers argued the player might just be a one-season wonder.

Nevertheless, Thuram’s stellar start to the new campaign suggests otherwise. He continues to showcase his importance to the cause with every fresh outing.

The striker has already bagged four goals in three Serie A appearances this term.
