Only ‘eight clubs’ can activate forward’s release clause | OneFootball

Victor Osimhen has a break clause in his season-long loan move to Galatasaray, though only eight clubs are able to activate it.

Osimhen has signed for the Turkish Süper Lig champions on loan for the 2024/25 campaign, having failed to secure a move away from Napoli to one of Europe’s elite clubs. The Nigerian held talks with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Al-Ahli, though no transfer was agreed.

After the closure of the transfer window for Europe’s top five leagues, Osimhen moved to Turkey after it was decided there would be no reintegration for him at Napoli.

Osimhen’s loan move to Istanbul includes a break clause in the January transfer window, should a leading side come calling.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all options for Osimhen – release clause lowered

Turkish reporter Kagan Dursun has claimed only eight clubs can activate the clause, however, with Osimhen choosing the options. Arsenal and Chelsea – who were interested in signing the striker in the summer – are included, alongside Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be among the eight-team group.

Napoli have also agreed to lower Osimhen’s release clause after his failure to secure a move this summer.

The previous fee of €130m (£109.5m) has been lowered to €75m (£63.2m) according to Sky Sports Italia. Napoli also have the option to extend his contract until 2027, if he is not sold next summer.

Chelsea are expected to resume their attempts to sign Osimhen in the January transfer window, having missed out on the forward and Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who signed for Saudi side Al-Ahli in a £40m deal on deadline day.
