Out-of-favour Barcelona star signs new long-term contract | OneFootball

A somewhat forgotten member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona recently committed to the terms of a new contract with the club.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Iñaki Peña as the player in question.

Shot-stopper Peña of course finds himself well down the pecking order between the posts in Catalunya’s capital at present.

Following the summer arrival of Joan García, upon Marc-André ter Stegen returning to fitness, Peña will be demoted to 4th-choice in Hansi Flick’s squad.

The 26-year-old is therefore widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out.

As alluded to above, though, prior to as much, Peña has somewhat surprisingly been tied down by Barcelona for the foreseeable future.

As per a report from MD:

‘Iñaki Peña has renewed his contract until 2029 and will go on loan to Elche, where he will have the opportunity to gain playing time and consolidate his position in the First Division. The agreement should be officially announced in the coming hours.’
