Oyarzabal and Zamora, two No 10s, have scored the goals that bookend Real Sociedad’s modern history. Zamora’s strike in Gijón clinched the first Liga, Mikel Oyarzabal ended the near 40-year wait for silverware. Another final in La Cartuja could bring a third iconic moment.
According to Diario Vasco, Oyarzabal tends to excel in finals but keeps the focus on the collective. He says scoring again would be welcome, yet if La Real win the Copa without him deciding it, that is fine. He aims to emulate Asier Illarramendi by lifting the trophy.
Both men create supporters. Many embraced La Real after Zamora’s goal at El Molinón, younger generations idolise Oyarzabal. Zamora recalls starting centrally like an 8, then moving to left wing at Sanse after Salva Iriarte’s injury despite being right-footed.
Zamora places Oyarzabal among the club’s greats, noting that medals alone do not define greatness. Some giants never won, yet Mikel already has one and within months that total could be three. Oyarzabal, however, plays down his own status.
He is proud of his numbers, wants more matches and moments like Saturday, and says the 10 feels lighter with time. He has watched the recap of that final, thinks Jesús suffered on the bench, and would take the same ending. Zamora will watch from above, young Martin Oyarzabal will be in the stands, and the captain asks supporters to savour it, promising they will give everything as he believes this final will be the most special.
