Over the past few days, reports have been circulating that Joao Palhinha is very likely to leave FC Bayern permanently for Tottenham Hotspur next summer. According to the latest reports, no decision has yet been made as to where the Portuguese will play in the 2026/57 season.

According to the BILD podcast„Bayern-Insider“, the report that Joao Palhinha is certain to stay at Tottenham Hotspur is incorrect. The Portuguese midfielder is by no means an undisputed fixture in the Spurs squad. „That’s not true. Tottenham are not certain to keep him – there’s a lot going on,“ emphasizes Tobi Altschäffl.

The situation surrounding the 30-year-old is more complicated than it has recently been made out to be in England. Palhinha moved to Tottenham on loan in the summer, where he initially earned a regular place. However, the club seems completely convinced internally.

A central point: the purchase option of 30 million euros, which Tottenham could activate in the summer. According to information from BILD, the Londoners are anything but sure whether they will do so. „Tottenham would like to press the purchase option. That shows how much uncertainty there is,“ explains Christian Falk.

Bayern return is out of the question

One thing is clear: if Tottenham do not sign Palhinha permanently, the midfielder will have to look for a new club. „A Bayern return is no longer an issue. Bayern are looking at completely different profiles,“ Altschäffl makes clear

However, another Bayern attack is almost impossible, as Kompany has already found his dream six-man in Aleksander Pavlovic alongside Joshua Kimmich. Bayern also have a promising player in Tom Bischof up their sleeve. Bayern are pushing for a sale in the summer of 2026, also to permanently remove the player from the payroll

According to Altschäffl and Falk, Tottenham are trying to sound out a different structure with the player and his entourage in the background. Spurs want to readjust the deal – or pursue an alternative plan in the summer. „There is unrest in the entourage because a lot of things don’t fit economically,“ said Falk.

Nevertheless, even if Tottenham turn him down, Palhinha is a highly sought-after type of player due to his strength in tackles and strong discipline. According to BILD, teams from Spain and Italy are said to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
