Rômulo will remain at Novorizontino on loan until mid-year after a window filled with speculation around the Palmeiras midfielder.

According to Globo.com, clubs from Série A and Série B made enquiries to Palmeiras and the player’s camp, but none became an offer the Alviverde viewed as worthwhile. The club had been seeking around $4 million, roughly R$21 million at current rates. Rômulo was signed in 2024 for R$7.4 million.

Interest grew after his standout Campeonato Paulista displays. He finished as Novorizontino’s second-highest scorer with five goals as they reached the final.

The final was preceded by a dispute between Palmeiras and Novorizontino over a R$1 million clause permitting him to play. Novorizontino only paid for the second leg.

On a heavy surface at Estádio Jorge Ismael de Biasi, Rômulo and his team-mates struggled. After a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, they lost 2-1 in the return and finished runners-up.

Despite planning sales this season, Palmeiras were content for him to stay, believing he is settled in Novo Horizonte and has potential to grow further.

Attention now turns to Série B, where Novorizontino are chasing promotion after two near misses. They began with a 3-1 defeat to Londrina and face Juventude on Tuesday, 31, at 18:30.
