Palmeiras have offered 25 million euros, roughly R$ 154.8 million, to Wolverhampton for Jhon Arias and are waiting on the Colombian’s decision. According to Globo.com, Wolves are open to a sale and talks have accelerated in recent days.
England’s window closed on Monday, which prevents Wolves signing a replacement, but this is not seen as a barrier to the deal.
Arias’ stance remains the key factor. Palmeiras tried to sign him early last year but could not prise him from Fluminense.
He joined Wolverhampton mid-season and the side are bottom of the Premier League with eight points from 24 games. Arias has made 29 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Fluminense hold a first-refusal clause if he leaves England. President Mattheus Montenegro has said he intends to use it, but would need to get close to Palmeiras’ terms.
The 28-year-old is a key figure for Colombia and wants to be in top shape for the World Cup. Palmeiras aim to add marquee names after the exits of Weverton, Micael, Aníbal Moreno, Facundo Torres and Raphael Veiga, with Marlon Freitas the only arrival so far. They have until 3 March to register new signings.
