Palmeiras prep for River Plate, Bruno Rodrigues back on the pitch

Palmeiras returned to training on the morning of this Sunday (14), at the Football Academy, after the 4-1 victory over Internacional this Saturday (13), at Allianz Parque, for the Campeonato Brasileiro. The Verdão squad began preparations for the first leg of the CONMEBOL Libertadores quarterfinals against River Plate, scheduled for Wednesday (17), at Mâs Monumental, in Buenos Aires (ARG).

How was the training?

The players who played more than 45 minutes followed a recovery schedule in the gym, in the recovery room, and in the neuroscience room. The rest of the group went out to the field for a training match with two halves of 20 minutes, which also included the presence of some of the Academy’s young talents.

Speak up, Bruno Rodrigues!

One of the most memorable moments of the victory over Internacional was the return of Bruno Rodrigues, who came back to play after recovering from surgery on his left knee. The number 11 came onto the field at the 34th minute of the second half, replacing Vitor Roque, and almost scored with a chip shot. He hadn’t played in an official match since January 2024, against Inter de Limeira, in the Campeonato Paulista.

As I told my teammates in the locker room, for me it felt like my first game as a professional. Because of everything I went through, it was a very special moment in my career. Truly very happy, I almost scored a goal, but everything happens at the right time, the important thing was to make my return in this shirt. I just have to thank everyone at the club

After the final whistle, the Palmeiras squad embraced the player and celebrated his return to the pitch together. Bruno highlighted the affection he received from his teammates and the importance of overcoming adversity in his journey.

I’m a calm person, I respect everyone. I know when it’s the right time to joke, to demand. The affection they showed me is also very much the result of my work, the recovery, everything I went through here at the club. It was a difficult moment for me, they were with me, saw my evolution day by day. I just have to thank my teammates for their affection and the most important thing was to be on the field, to feel good, confident. Now I just have to wait for other opportunities with coach Abel

The group is focused, we played a great game yesterday and trained today focused on Wednesday, to go there and play a great match. We know there are two matches, home and away, so we’ll look to get a positive result there
