Palmeiras drew 1-1 with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay in the Conmebol Libertadores, and, according to Nosso Palestra, it marks their worst start to the competition since Abel Ferreira arrived.
Jhon Arias scored for Palmeiras, while Carlos Miguel put through his own net after the ball struck the post and bounced back into the Palmeiras goal.
For the first time under Abel Ferreira, Palmeiras may face difficulties to qualify for the last 16. They are second in Group F after three rounds with five points, two draws and one win, behind Sporting Cristal on six. Cerro Porteño have four and Junior one.
Across the first three rounds under Ferreira, Palmeiras collected 9 points in 2021, 2022 and 2025, 7 in 2024, 6 in 2023 and 5 in 2026.
In 2021, 2022 and 2025, campaigns that ended as champions, semi-finalists and runners-up, they won all three opening games. In the other seasons they had at least two wins from the first three, which has not happened in 2026, despite a stronger squad and larger transfer outlay.
Next up in the Libertadores is Sporting Cristal in Peru on Tuesday 5 in the fourth round. Before then they face Santos on Saturday 2 at 18:30 Brasília time in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
