São Paulo state civil police carried out a search and seizure on Wednesday as part of an investigation into digital ticket touting, ideological falsehood and related offences.

According to Globo.com, the operation was led by the Delegacia de Repressão aos Delitos de Intolerância Esportiva (DRADE) under Cesar Saad, after Palmeiras requested the opening of a police inquiry, a move approved by the São Paulo judiciary.

Palmeiras’ Internal Audit Fraud Prevention unit identified early this year the activities of touts selling tickets and profiting through electronic fraud, and those findings underpinned the case.

One suspect was located in Araras, about 400 kilometres from the state capital. Officers seized a mobile phone and a computer CPU, which will undergo forensic analysis to support the investigation.

Palmeiras are among Brazil’s most active clubs in tackling touting. Since 2023, under president Leila Pereira, facial biometrics have been applied to 100% of tickets for home matches.
