Palmeiras restart work this week with few outstanding issues as Abel Ferreira readies a mid-season training block. The squad are due back on Wednesday at the Academia de Futebol, with players following tailored programmes in person or remotely, according to Globo.com.
Vitor Roque had planned to skip his holidays and train throughout the recess, and he now has company. Jefté is recovering from surgery at the training centre, while Paulinho and Benedetti returned early to sharpen fitness. Barring the left-back, all could be fully fit for the second half.
For Abel, this pause offers unprecedented rest and preparation time in his Palmeiras tenure. He featured on Fulham’s wishlist but has ruled out leaving at this stage. Palmeiras lead the Brasileiro and remain in the cups, and after a frustrating 2025 he hopes to win major titles.
In week one, sessions will alternate between morning and afternoon, starting light before workloads increase. The club also plan two friendlies during the recess, with opponents still to be confirmed.
Aside from those on international duty, all players are expected to report, though one case is unresolved. Right-back Giay has been invited by the Argentine federation to stay with the World Cup group. He has not returned from the United States and may miss day one while his conditioning is coordinated.
Supporters can also track seven call-ups, Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa, Mauricio, Flaco López, Piquerez, Emiliano Martínez and Jhon Arias, who face decisive days in pursuit of World Cup knockout places.
