Panathanaikos could sign out-of-favour Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa before the Greek transfer window closes.

This according to Greek outlet Inpao.gr. They report that a sale of forward Andraz Sporar would be necessary for the deal to happen, however.

The transfer window has come and gone for much of Europe without Correa leaving Inter.

The Argentine returned to the Nerazzurri at the end of last season following a deeply uninspiring loan spell with Marseille.

And it always seemed clear that Inter would do everything they could to offload Correa.

And considering that the 30-year-old’s contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of next June, it would presumably have to be a permanent sale rather than another loan.

There were several clubs to show an interest in signing Correa. However, the Argentine’s wages presented an insurmountable obstacle, and so no one got a deal done.

The transfer window is no longer open for the majority of European leagues.

However, there are a few leagues in which the window is still open, for at least a few more days. That would be the last chance for Correa to leave and join a different club.

One league in which the transfer window remains open is the Greek Super League.

And there is one Greek team that has already shown an interest in Correa. AEK Athens had targeted the out-of-favour Inter forward during the summer.

But according to Inpao.gr, there is a second Athens-based club that are eyeing up a surprise swoop.

The outlet report that Correa is very much on Panathanaikos’s radar.

The Greek club have already completed a deal to sign midfielder Azzedine Ounahi on loan from Marseille. But they may not be finished yet.

Inpao.gr report that Panathanaikos want to sign Correa. But they would first have to sell forward Sporar to free up space on their wage bill.

However, the outlet reports, Panathanaikos are optimistic that they can do this.
