An update on the wellbeing of Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois has come to the fore on Monday evening.

And the news will no doubt be met with widespread concern on the part of the Blancos faithful.

This comes amid the understanding that the Belgian may be facing up to an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Shot-stopper Courtois for his part featured from the off yesterday evening, as Real Madrid locked horns with Manchester City in the Champions League.

En route to a 2-1 triumph, however, the former Chelsea man was hooked from proceedings with 45 minutes on the clock.

Speaking to the media post-match, Álvaro Arbeloa was quick to assure that Courtois’ withdrawal came as a precaution.

If ensuing word stemming from the media 24 hours on is anything to go by, however, then Real’s headmaster may well have been off the mark with his initial assessment.

As per a report from journalist Javier Rodríguez Pascual:

‘Maximum concern for Courtois. Definitive medical tests tomorrow. The club reported that it appeared to be muscle strain after the initial impressions at the Etihad. A high-grade muscle injury is feared. Let’s hope for the best.’
