Paquetá reacted to Flamengo’s 2016 Instagram throwback, sparking a wave of excitement among supporters as a possible return is discussed.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the West Ham midfielder has an agreement with Flamengo and is close to signing a four-year contract, but the English club want €40m, about R$250m at current rates, and talks, including a meeting on Monday, are ongoing.

Owing to the talks, he has not been training with West Ham and has missed the last two matches, against QPR and Tottenham. He has made clear he wants to return to the club he loves to rediscover his enjoyment.

On Monday, Flamengo joined Instagram’s trend of 2016 throwbacks, posting a carousel featuring Lucas Paquetá, Diego Ribas, Willian Arão, Guerrero and others. The academy product appeared in two images, then left a red and a black heart beneath the post.

Fans flooded the comments within 20 minutes, with more than 2,000 responses urging him to come back and asking whether he is on his way.

The throwback also recalled a year in which he made only two senior appearances, before a 2017 breakthrough and a 2018 move to Milan.
