Paris FC stunned PSG 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in the Coupe de France last 32 on Monday, earning a historic win. L'Équipe reports that the promoted side built on lessons from a league defeat eight days earlier.
In that Ligue 1 meeting, also at the Parc and lost 1-2, Gilli urged his players to play more. He and his staff used a back five, squeezed the middle to disrupt Vitinha’s team-mates, and targeted runs in behind by Alimami Gory and Willem Geubbels. The squad concluded they were close and had nothing to lose.
In his pre-match talk, Gilli said they could become the first Paris FC side to beat PSG. Early injuries forced the front pair off, so the plan was tweaked at half-time.
In the dressing room, disbelief turned to song as goalkeeper Obed Nkambadio led celebrations while Nhoa Sangui filmed. Gilli told his squad he was proud of their values, acknowledged the late pressure, and said such displays show what collective work can achieve against the best team in the world.
President Pierre Ferracci embraced players and staff, then said that with this solidarity there is no reason to be 15th before Nantes on Sunday. Antoine Arnault missed the upset due to his father Bernard’s installation at the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, followed remotely, and both he and Ferracci received congratulations from PSG president Nasser al-Khelaïfi.
