The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office is reported to have opened an investigation into Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla following a complaint from the French Football Federation (FFF) regarding racist comments posted on X by the politician about Kylian Mbappé (27), according to reports from RMC Sport.

“This brute hasn’t even learnt to write. Instead of his mother’s milk, he suckled coconuts, and the most educated beings he’d ever heard were chimpanzees,” she had written on X, before describing the captain of Les Bleus as “a colonised Cameroonian who pretends to be French, spiteful, nouveau riche, arrogant and ugly. He was nervous and scared to death throughout the match, just like the rest of his team.”

Charged with public insult, aggravated by the fact that she uttered the insult on the grounds of the victim’s origin, ethnicity, nationality, race or religion, whether real or supposed, as well as with public incitement to hatred or violence, aggravated by the fact that she incited such hatred or violence on the grounds of the victim’s origin, ethnicity, nationality, race or religion – whether real or supposed – of the victim, the 61-year-old woman faces a sentence of one year’s imprisonment and a €45k fine.

However, this has not prompted Amarilla to apologise; speaking to the press this afternoon, she added: “Mbappé hasn’t asked me to apologise, and I have no reason to do so. I wrote what I had to write. I have retracted my comments – yes, it is racism, which is why I deleted my post. I apologise to everyone; I hate racism. I’m in the process of deconstructing myself; I come from a society where everything was different.”

“I’ve taken it back, but Mbappé needs to take it back too. Don’t mess with the Paraguayans, Mbappé – over here, we’ve put Ronaldinho in prison. Don’t underestimate me, Mbappé.”

This latest outburst echoes the response posted on X yesterday by Mbappé, who described Amarilla as “an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country.”
