Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race to sign Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva at the end of the season, as per a new report.

Silva, who was handed the armband by Pep Guardiola last summer upon the departures of Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, has made 38 appearances across all competitions for the Blues this term – including all 29 Premier League matches this season – recording two goals and five assists.

The 31-year-old signed for the Premier League giants in the summer of 2017 from AS Monaco in a deal worth £43 million, going on to lead the Blues to a plethora of silverware on the domestic, European and global fronts.

Despite being a key player in Guardiola’s squad, reports about the Portugal international’s seemingly inevitable departure from City have surfaced since the start of the 2025-26 season – with Silva out of contract in June.

Bernardo Silva set for pick of clubs upon inevitable Manchester City exit this summer

Who is in the running to sign Bernardo Silva this summer?

Executives at the Etihad Stadium are not understood to be confident of convincing the Manchester City skipper to sign a new deal – as clubs across Europe and beyond remain keen on signing Silva ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Amid doubts over Silva’s future at City, Pete O’Rourke revealed on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast that Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Benfica are interested in signing Silva in the summer.

Silva’s boyhood club Benfica have reportedly been planning a reunion with their academy graduate, who left the Liga Portugal club for AS Monaco after making only three appearances for the first-team.

Is Pep Guardiola expecting Bernardo Silva to sign a new contract at Manchester City?

Guardiola was asked by reporters in January about Silva’s future at Manchester City. “I would love for him to stay forever,” the Catalan said.

“But we’ve talked a lot and he has to decide what’s best for him and his family. Whatever happens, in 10 years he will still be remembered as one of the greatest players in this club’s history.”

While Guardiola’s response hinted at the possibility that family considerations might play a major role in the midfielder’s decision, Silva has publicly clarified that he has made up his mind over his future and the decision will be revealed when the time is right.

Bernardo Silva poised to leave Manchester City as free agent this summer

What has Bernardo Silva said on his future plans?

“I know exactly what I’m going to do but it’s not the time to talk about it,” Silva said in September 2025 to maintain the focus on matters on the pitch and not invite too much attention to his contract situation.

If Silva leaves Manchester City as a free agent this summer, a long list of suitors are expected to line up to acquire his signature.

It is understood that City’s summer transfer plans will depend on the results of the ongoing campaign, wherein Guardiola and co remain in contention for a historic quadruple.
