Parc des Princes sets the stage for a heavyweight Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Tuesday night’s showdown in Paris also serves as the league phase’s top-table six-pointer, with the reigning French and German champions coming into this round as the top two.

Les Parisiens have enjoyed a dream start to their title-defending campaign, winning all three matches so far by an emphatic aggregate scoreline of 13-3.

However, if there’s a side capable of knocking Luis Enrique’s side off their perch, it’s high-flying Bayern, who put direct title rivals Bayer Leverkusen to the sword at the weekend.

Vincent Kompany’s team demolished Die Werkself 3-0 at the Allianz Arena, maintaining a flawless nine-game start to their Bundesliga title defence (W9).

Like their hosts, the German titans have been relentless at the beginning of the new Champions League season, winning all three games by multi-goal margins, including a 3-1 home triumph over Chelsea on matchday one.

Heavy Hitters

PSG’s Ligue 1 title defence is firmly on track after Goncalo Ramos’ 94th-minute winner against OGC Nice last weekend helped his side protect a slim two-point lead over second-placed Marseille.

Heavily fancied to win a fifth successive domestic title, Les Parisiens remain focused on making another standout result on the continental front after winning their maiden Champions League title last term.

Saturday’s last-gasp win over Les Aiglons restored a feel-good factor in Paris, keeping the team’s morale high after an underwhelming run of three draws from their five previous outings (W2).

Enrique’s side obliterated Leverkusen 7-2 at the BayArena during that sequence, perhaps setting the perfect backdrop for a potentially landmark occasion at the Parc des Princes.

After emerging victorious from their last six Champions League fixtures, PSG could make it seven wins in a row at Europe’s top table for the first time in the club’s history.

Visiting Bayern must be wary of PSG’s tendency to hit hard after the break, with Les Parisiens finding the back of the net after half-time in every home match this season.

Unplayable Crew

To say the Bavarians have been unplayable this season would be an understatement, considering they have yet to drop points in any competition in 2025/26.

However, the visitors would be naive to get complacent, as landslide victories over Club Brugge and Pafos in their last two Champions League outings can hardly compare to the magnitude of this task.

Adding to this sentiment, the record-time Bundesliga champions have gone winless across their last five Champions League clashes against reigning champions (D1, L4).

Confidence stems from Bayern’s indomitable record in the competition’s group/league phase. Indeed, they’ve suffered just three of their last 51 games at this juncture (W44, D4).

Kompany’s team can draw further inspiration from their illustrious four-game winning sequence in this particular fixture, not to mention the fact that they kept a clean sheet on each occasion.

It’s also worth noting that none of the 14 previous Champions League meetings between PSG and Bayern have ended level, with the Bavarians claiming eight wins against Paris’ six.

Team News

With Ilya Zabarnyi suspended after being sent off against Leverkusen, Willian Pacho seems like a frontrunner to partner up with Marquinhos at the back.

In addition to the Ukrainian centre-back, Enrique cannot call upon his prodigious forward, Desire Doue, who slumped to a nasty-looking muscle injury against Lorient last week.

On the other hand, Bayern will take this trip without long-term absentees Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala.

All eyes will be on Harry Kane, who has been firing on all cylinders this season. The former Tottenham Hotspur captain is the competition’s joint-top scorer with Kylian Mbappe, having netted five goals in the first three rounds.

Potential Line-ups

Paris Saint-Germain (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, Zaire-Emery, Neves; Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, Barcola.
