Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is in Senegal on Wednesday, having been welcomed in Dakar overnight by Fédération sénégalaise de football (FSF) president Abdoulaye Fall.
According to the CAF, he will first visit Gorée Island before being received by Senegalese president Bassirou Diomaye Faye. A press conference is scheduled for 17:30 to address several sensitive issues, including the awarding of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations trophy to Morocco.
At the end of March, Motsepe outlined trips to Senegal and Morocco to emphasise working together to develop African football. The confederation has faced criticism after the CAF appeals commission stripped Senegal of its African champions title in favour of Morocco.
The FSF has appealed that decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will rule in several months.
On 18 March, the Senegalese government called for an international investigation into suspected corruption within the leadership of the pan-African body. Motsepe later rejected any suggestion of preferential treatment and pointed to the independence of its disciplinary panels.
