Patrick Agyemang suffered a non-contact injury and was stretchered off during Derby County’s Easter Monday Championship match against Stoke City, raising fears his season is over. The setback may also hit his hopes of playing in a home World Cup and of a potential Premier League move to Leeds United.
According to Leeds Live, the 25-year-old landed awkwardly in the first half, went down immediately and left the pitch on a stretcher, initially covering his face before appearing visibly upset. Concern over the extent of the damage emerged straight away.
Back in January, there were reports that Leeds United and Crystal Palace had tabled offers for the American international, with suggestions of a £20 million valuation. While that was never the case, Agyemang has continued to be linked with a summer move to the Whites.
The former Charlotte FC striker joined Derby last summer in a £5.9m deal and has been a big hit. The Rams are not looking to sell, with only a significant offer likely to tempt them.
Agyemang has been pushing hard to secure a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s World Cup squad and recently scored for his country in a friendly against Belgium that finished 5-2. A sustained absence could derail both his international ambitions and any summer move.
