Patrick Berg, now established in Norway’s World Cup midfield to face Brazil, left Lens after eight months yet remains fondly remembered among supporters.

According to L'Équipe, Lens signed Berg in December 2021 for 4.5 million euros to be the third man in a double pivot behind Seko Fofana and Cheick Doucouré. Expectations were high given a family line of Norway and Bodö/Glimt internationals, from Harald and Orjan to Runar Berg.

He debuted days later in a Coupe de France derby at Lille, a 2-2 draw won 4-3 on penalties, then started a 2-1 Ligue 1 win in April. Otherwise he had late cameos.

By early 2022-23 he still trailed Fofana and summer recruit Salis Abdul Samed. Franck Haise has said Berg suits a midfield three, long used by Bodö/Glimt.

Dropped by Stale Solbakken in late August, he returned to Bodö/Glimt to regain his place. He later accepted it could look a step back.

Back home he featured in a historic Champions League round of 16 last season. He still follows Lens, praising a 5-0 win over Paris FC in February, and remains appreciated in Artois.
