Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu endured a difficult game as his side were beaten 1-0 by 10-man Everton on Monday evening.

United humiliated by Everton

United headed into the game with plenty of confidence and on an unbeaten run of five Premier League games.

However, it was Everton who clinched all three points to register their first victory at Old Trafford since December 2013, when David Moyes was in the Old Trafford dugout.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men after just 13 minutes when Idrissa Gueye was given his marching orders after striking teammate Michael Keane during a heated confrontation.

United failed to make the numerical advantage count, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s curling effort proving to be all that the Toffees needed to claim the win against Ruben Amorim’s toothless side.

The Red Devils were booed off the pitch both at the break and after the final whistle, having struggled for cutting edge against a stubborn and compact Everton defensive unit. United’s most promising chance fell to Joshua Zirkzee, but he was denied by Jordan Pickford, who produced a brilliant save to keep the clean sheet.

Several United players simply didn’t show up, with Dorgu being one of them.

Dorgu’s performance vs. Everton

During the time he was on the pitch before he was taken off and replaced by Diogo Dalot, Dorgu managed to complete 19 of the 25 passes he attempted (76% pass accuracy). One of these was a key pass.

He aimed three crosses but couldn’t find a United teammate with any of them.

Dorgu had a golden chance to restore parity when the ball fell to him at the backpost, but he couldn’t find the back of the net, instead dragging his shot wide.

The Dane touched the ball 42 times and lost it on 11 occasions.

Dorgu contributed two clearances and as many recoveries. He successfully won one of the two tackles he put in and came out second best in all three aerial duels that he contested.

The 21-year-old won two of the three ground duels he delved into.

Dorgu’s display was one to forget, as the young wing-back continues to struggle with the tactical demands of his role under Amorim, particularly in the attacking third, where he falls significantly short.

Amorim’s decision is an easy one. Dorgu can’t be relied upon to start consistently. Long-term, United may also consider dipping into the market for players who are more suited to assume the wing-back role.
