Newcastle United haven’t been very convincing with their performances this season under manager Eddie Howe.

Winning six and losing five of their 16 matches, the Magpies are currently sitting 12th in the Premier League standings.

Newcastle won their previous two matches against Leicester City and Brentford, but inconsistency has been one of their biggest issues this campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side will look to make a comeback for the second-half of the season by adding a few quality players in the January transfer window.

Paul Mitchell must sell Miguel Almiron

Sporting director Mitchell failed to make a marquee addition at St James’ Park in the summer. However, he will look to add a few fresh faces to the squad next month.

To increase their spending power, the Magpies must sell Almiron in January. The forward is currently surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, and it is best if they cash in on him soon.

Almiron joined Newcastle in 2019 for a fee around £21 million. Since his arrival, he has made 218 appearances across all competitions, scoring 30 goals in the process.

With a goal per seven games on average, the winger’s numbers are far from impressive.

However, he has been enduring a particularly different campaign in 2024-25, making just a senior Premier League start.

Almiron, who is currently on £60k-per-week wages, is clearly not part of Howe’s future plans, with the English boss preferring Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon over him.

The 30-year-old has a contract at St James’ Park until 2026, but they must cash in on him in the next transfer window.

There is said to be interest from Argentine club River Plate, who could make a good offer for him.
