Paul Orsatti, a Corsican football legend and former Bastia goalkeeper nicknamed the Cat of Quenza, died on Saturday 4 April aged 84.
He was Bastia’s first-choice keeper from 1963 to 1970. Bastia paid tribute on Sunday, recalling the 1968 Division 2 title as the club’s first national trophy, according to L'Équipe.
He later played for Toulon from 1970 to 1972, then spent single seasons at Avignon in 1972-1973 and Toulouse in 1973-1974, finishing at Paris FC between 1974 and 1977.
After retiring, he moved into coaching with spells at Besançon, Toulon, Martigues and Gazélec Ajaccio. In 1998 he founded ISF, now Jeunesse Sport Formation, in Corsica to train sports educators.
The UNFP also paid tribute on Tuesday. The union, founded in 1961, highlighted his role in creating the Football Charter in 1972 with Philippe Piat, Guy Lassalette, Jean-Claude Bras and Claude Le Roy. The charter remains in force today.
