Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba’s return to football has not gone as planned.
The Frenchman played a total of 233 games for Manchester United over two spells, scoring 37 goals.
He also played 190 times for Juventus, scoring 34 times over two spells.
Pogba rejoined Juventus from Manchester United when he left on a free transfer in 2022.
He could only manage 12 games before picking up a serious injury, and then he ran into doping problems.
The midfielder was banned from football in 2023 and was originally given a sentence of four years before it was reduced to 18 months.
He signed for AS Monaco in the summer of 2025, but he has only been able to play in three Ligue 1 matches, all as a substitute since his return to football.
At the start of the month, Monaco’s general manager, Thiago Scuro, confirmed that there is no scheduled return date for Pogba as of yet, and this still seems to be the case.
French outlet Footmercato carries comments from Monaco’s coach, Sébastien Pocognoli, that seem to confirm Pogba is no closer to a return.
When asked to speak on the former Manchester United midfielder’s return, he replied, “Paul Pogba? Quite honestly, I don’t have a clear answer to give you. So there you have it. I’d like to give you a precise date, but it’s just not possible. That’s all I can say. In any case, we hope he’ll come back at some point. In a context where we can perhaps discuss this issue more concretely.”
The outlet has described Monaco as “at the end of their rope” with the player and states that all signs seem to point to the gamble of signing him last summer as being a massive failure.
They finish by stating, “Paul Pogba’s situation seems very delicate” and the club don’t have many options if they want to see the Pogba of old. They also speculate that it is hard to see the player return to anything like his old form, if he even returns at all.
