According to Globo.com, Paulinho has recorded positive results in follow-up tests on surgery to his right leg, allowing Palmeiras to increase his workload inside the training centre and out on the pitch.
The No 10 has not featured since four July during the Club World Cup. Late that month he underwent another procedure on the same leg to address an issue dating back to his Atlético-MG spell.
Since then, the club have managed a slow recovery because he has lived with pain in that area for more than a year and a half. He is not yet in the transition from physical to technical work, and the expectation is for this to happen over the course of February.
He has been treating a stress fracture of the right tibia since 2024, diagnosed while at Atlético-MG. He played six months with the injury before the first operation, then moved to Palmeiras two weeks later.
Early last year, when he returned, the bone had healed well but discomfort flared as training and match loads increased. He managed only 16 games and, after the Club World Cup, was sidelined for another surgery agreed by the player, staff and club medics. This time the bone was fixed with an implant deemed strong enough to withstand the load.
