Paulo Fonseca says he would have no doubt about recalling Corentin Tolisso to the France squad if he were Didier Deschamps, while stressing his respect for the national coach’s choices. The Lyon manager was speaking before Friday’s OM v OL.

According to Le Progres, Fonseca underlined that he sees Tolisso daily, rates him highly and values his leadership, adding he was not trying to pressure Deschamps. He acknowledged how hard selection is given France’s depth, and said that, for him, France are among the World Cup favourites and have more top players than Portugal.

Tolisso continues to face national-team questions and did so again in the pre-match press conference. He called OM v OL a big game and said performing well matters, but argued a strong display and a win would carry the same value as any other match, otherwise it would create pressure. He has not played for France since Euro 2021.

The Marseille fixture could offer added exposure and, potentially, a route back for the friendlies on 26 and 29 March against Brazil in Boston and Colombia in Washington.

Fonseca laughed before answering the Tolisso question, aware of the potential trap, then reiterated his respect for Deschamps’ options while making his own stance clear.
