Paulo Henrique has been ruled out of Vasco’s trip to Internacional after scans confirmed a mild sprain of his right ankle.

According to Globo.com, the full-back has not travelled to Porto Alegre, remaining in Rio de Janeiro for intensive treatment with the club’s Department of Health and Performance (DESP).

He was injured in a collision with Paysandu left-back Bonifazi three minutes into the second half of the Copa do Brasil tie that sent Vasco into the last 16. He left the pitch in tears and was replaced by Puma Rodríguez.

After Wednesday’s game he sought to play down the problem and departed São Januário without immobilisation, though he had been wearing protection on the ankle beforehand. He later reported pain.

Internacional host Vasco at Beira-Rio on Saturday at 6.30pm, Brasília time, in round 16 of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Renato Gaúcho’s side are eighth on 20 points.
