Pedro Ferreira reveals ‘shock’ at Allan Barcellos leaving São Paulo

One of São Paulo’s standout players in their runner-up Copinha campaign, Pedro Ferreira commented on the departure of coach Allan Barcellos from the club’s under-20 team. After the Brazil national under-20 team’s training session this Wednesday at CT Joaquim Grava, the midfielder admitted the news was a “blow” and that he could hardly believe he had been let go.

“It was a blow. My club teammates told me in the room, and at the time I didn’t really believe it, but then I saw it had come out officially. I’m going to message him, because he was a guy who helped me a lot, helped me a lot to be here and also with the first team,” he said.

He also spoke about day-to-day life with the coach and recalled that he demanded a lot from his players.

“We got along very well. He was a great companion, but when it was time to demand, he did that well too,” he added.

Pedro Ferreira worked with Allan Barcellos in São Paulo’s youth setup between 2024 and 2025. Together at Tricolor, the pair won the Copinha title in 2025 and also finished second in this season’s edition, in which the midfielder scored one goal and provided four assists. They also won the Copa do Brasil in the category last year.

Headed to Palmeiras?

Palmeiras have been without a coach for their under-20 team since Lucas Andrade’s departure, as he joined the Brazil under-20 national team’s coaching staff after the Copa Libertadores in the category. Allan had already been monitored by Verdão on other occasions, but at the start of this year, Tricolor renewed the coach’s contract until 2027.

Allan Barcellos has also received inquiries from other youth clubs, as well as professional sides. Gazeta Esportiva has learned, however, that for the time being, despite the long-standing interest, there are no negotiations underway.
