Pedro Neto proves once again that he is Mr Reliable for Chelsea after 8/10 display v Cardiff | OneFootball

Chelsea claimed a hard-fought 3-1 win over Cardiff City yesterday. The Blues made it difficult for themselves with a poor first-half showing.

However, manager Enzo Maresca rang the changes and the top guns came on, swinging momentum in Chelsea’s favour.

Alejandro Garnacho came on from the bench and netted a double while Pedro Neto also scored a well-taken goal, earning the Blues a place in the semi-final.

While Garnacho will likely (and rightly) take most of the plaudits, Neto deserves praise for a solid 25-minute cameo.

The Portuguese winger came on and helped Chelsea hold on to the ball. He also helped the West Londoners be more incisive, providing the cutting edge they lacked.

His performance earned him an 8/10 rating from Football London. They wrote, “The hero. His sixth goal of the season. Mr Reliable for the Blues.”

Neto has been criticised by Chelsea fans for his lack of end product and decision-making in the final third, but continues to deliver the goods and shut out all the noise.

His defensive work rate and non-stop running will make him a mainstay of this Chelsea team for years to come.

The excitement of on-loan stars like Geovany Quenda and Kendry Paez has led many to believe that the Blues can do away with Neto, but he continues to prove his worth.

The West Londoners take on Newcastle United this weekend, and Neto is expected to reclaim his starting berth. He will hope to continue his excellent run of form.

Youngster Estevao Willian is reportedly dealing with a muscle issue and won’t be available to provide cover for Neto.

His absence will be a massive blow for the Blues as they bid to consolidate their hold on fourth place on the Premier League table with a win over struggling Newcastle.
