Barcelona are not resting on their laurels in the transfer market, as they prepare to make their return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule – which will make it easier for signings to be added to Hansi Flick’s squad. Anthony Gordon has also arrived as competition in attack, and in the coming weeks, there could be a midfielder heading to the Spotify Camp Nou.

The expected departure of Marc Casado, who does not count for Flick, will open up a space in midfield. Barcelona intend to add experience to compliment the likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Gavi, which is why Bernardo Silva has been identified as their desired signing.

Silva will become a free agent next month when his Manchester City contract expires. Barcelona had hoped to have him signed before the 2026 World Cup gets underway next weekend, but a decision will not be made by the Portugal international until after his involvement at the tournament comes to an end.

In the meantime, Silva’s former manager Pep Guardiola, whom worked with the veteran midfielder over the course of nine years at Man City, has endorsed a possible move to Barcelona for the 31-year-old, as per MD.

“Bernardo would adapt to any team. He’s too good.”

Guardiola, who left Man City at the end of the 2025-26 season, was also asked to give his general thoughts on Barcelona. He spoke highly of Flick, who is off the back of guiding the Catalans to back-to-back La Liga titles in his first two seasons at the club.

“They have had two extraordinary years, beyond the results, how well they have done and how attractive it is to watch them play. I’m a big fan of Hansi, how he does it and has done it for many years.”
