Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued an update on his side’s fitness for their UEFA Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday evening.

The Blues were handed their first defeat in 14 games in all competitions at the weekend as goals from Bryan Mbuemo and Patrick Dorgu succumbed City to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

City are winless in the Premier League in 2026 so far as the goals have dried up for Guardiola and co, who welcomed Marc Guehi to their defensive ranks from Crystal Palace on Monday in the wake of injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol earlier this month.

Guardiola is missing a series of key players to injury, with Phil Foden taken off at half-time in Saturday’s defeat against United with a suspected fractured hand – though Guardiola denied these claims in his post-match press conference from Old Trafford.

It hasn’t been the finest of starts to a calendar year for Manchester City, who need to turn the ship around and pick up momentum if they are to cut down a seven point deficit to Premier League leaders Arsenal between now and the end of the season.

A UEFA Champions League clash away at Bodo/Glimt in Norway gives the eight-time Premier League champions the perfect chance to return to winning ways and build confidence ahead of this weekend’s league meeting with Wolves.

Previewing the group-stage fixture in the Nordland county, Guardiola issued a wide update on his side’s fitness as they enter a tricky run of games in the next fortnight.

The Manchester City manager confirmed that Foden did, in fact, fracture some bones in his right hand at Old Trafford, but that the forward is ready for selection against Bodo/Glimt. “He has a little bit broken his bones, but he has a protection and he’s fine for tomorrow,” Guardiola said on Monday evening.

Erling Haaland has cut a frustrating figure in front of goal in 2026 so far amid concerns over whether the Norway international needs to be taken out of the team and given some time to recharge.

On Haaland’s fitness levels, Guardiola added: “He said to me he slept unbelievably so he’s fit,” which means the 25-year-old will likely lead the line for the Blues alongside new signing Antoine Semenyo.

Guardiola was further pressed on if Haaland can continue to operate to the levels he has done in the first half of the 2025-26 season. “It depends on his mind, and his fire, it will dictate it. As much as he’s not injured, he can play, yeah.”

Oscar Bobb remains unavailable for Manchester City amid great uncertainty over the 22-year-old’s future at the Etihad Stadium in the backdrop of a series of frustrating fitness setbacks that have derailed the academy graduate’s progress in the first-team squad again this term.

“I don’t know, I have no idea,” Guardiola said on whether he sees Bobb staying at Manchester City beyond January and playing a role in the senior squad as the season progresses. “He says he’s not fit, so he’s not fit,” the Catalan added on Bobb’s availability against Bodo/Glimt.

City can secure their place in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League group-stage rankings with three points against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday evening, with Guardiola and co desperate for inspiration to come from somewhere in the squad to resurge their quest for silverware on multiple fronts this season.
