The exact moment Manchester City’s Ederson found himself struck by a fresh injury blow this season has been detailed by Pep Guardiola, speaking to reporters.
The Brazil international has endured a rare inconsistent campaign for Manchester City having endured a number of injury and fitness problems that have made him unavailable at various occasions for both club and country.
It is largely a summary of Manchester City’s season as a whole, with Pep Guardiola noting on multiple occasions that the club have simply been unable to compete at the level they are used to due to the number of absentees struck upon the squad.
One positive from the viewpoint of another member of the Etihad Stadium squad is that Stefan Ortega Moreno has been granted additional opportunities to impress, and may see that trend continue into the final few games of the campaign.
That is in light of yet another injury problem sustained by Ederson, as the 31-year-old was hauled off the pitch on Saturday afternoon midway through the club’s eventual 5-2 win over Crystal Palace in Premier League action.
Speaking during the aftermath of a vital win for the club, manager Pep Guardiola was asked whether there had been any further insight into the nature of Ederson’s injury problem that forced him off the field during the second-half.
“No (update),” Guardiola admitted. “One month or two months ago, he had problems, muscular, that’s why he was a few days out.”
The Manchester City boss continued, “But when he made the pass to (James) McAtee, he felt the same feeling and that’s why he came out.”
Pep Guardiola is expected to provide a further update on Ederson’s availability on Friday afternoon when he speaks to the media ahead of Manchester City’s final trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the Premier League.
City’s first-team squad have had a number of days off this week to take advantage of their free midweeks and to mentally reset ahead of matches in quick succession, with the visit to Merseyside followed by Aston Villa travelling to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
