Pep Guardiola sends message to new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso | OneFootball

Manchester City head coach and Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola has this week provided his take on the appointment of fellow countryman Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid.

Tactician Alonso was of course unveiled as the latest addition to the Santiago Bernabéu bench last week.

After a difficult season under the watch of Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid brass made the call to head in a new direction, opting for the younger and more risky profile of Alonso.

One individual, though, who appears confident in Alonso’s chances of succeeding in Spain’s capital comes in the form of the aforementioned Pep Guardiola.

Speaking to the media this week, Man City headmaster Guardiola was asked for his take on the task awaiting Alonso back in his home country.

And the legendary tactician, in quotes relaid by Diario AS, went on to explain:

“He’s shown that he’s a great coach. He’s been at Madrid and that’s a point in his favour. He knows what wars to fight and those that aren’t necessary. I wish him the best and that he does well. I have a good friendship and fond memories with him.”
