Pep Guardiola has dominated Leeds United across eight meetings, winning six. He has also spoken warmly about the club and Elland Road. According to Leeds Live, he enjoys a cordial relationship with Daniel Farke.

His only defeat to Leeds came in April 2021, when Stuart Dallas scored twice, the second in the 91st minute, with United down to 10 men. The other slip was a 1-1 draw at Elland Road seven months earlier, and City have won all six meetings since by an aggregate 20-4.

This run includes this season’s 3-2 win at the Etihad and February’s 1-0 success away, after which Farke was sent off after full time. The pair’s rapport dates to 2019, when Farke’s Norwich beat City 3-2.

In August, Guardiola phoned Farke for his view on Arsenal’s tactics after Leeds lost 5-0 at the Emirates, seeking pointers before City’s own visit. Before February’s game he praised Elland Road as a traditional ground with a fierce atmosphere.

After the match, he smiled as he recounted being called a vulgar name by a supporter. He also criticised boos during the Ramadan pause, urging respect for religion and diversity, and noted the Premier League permits a brief break for fasting players.

He said staff handed out vitamins because Rayan Cherki and Rayan Aït-Nouri had not eaten, and asked what the problem was. Leeds later condemned the jeers as disappointing and unexpected, accepted communication should have been clearer, and cited several mitigating factors.
