Villarreal are close to finalising the signing of 36-year-old Hungary goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi from RB Leipzig after 11 seasons, with only final formalities remaining.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he is set to sign a two-year contract to June 2028 with an optional third season, and the fee will be one million euros, lower than first suggested.
The move addresses upheaval in Villarreal's goalkeeping department after the departures of Diego Conde and Arnau Tenas, and would provide competition and experience alongside Luiz Júnior for a Champions League campaign.
Gulácsi would arrive at La Cerámica following a successful stint in Germany. He joined Liverpool as a youngster, made loan spells in the English lower leagues, then progressed within the Red Bull set-up at Salzburg and Leipzig.
Since signing for Leipzig he has played more than 360 competitive matches, won two German Cups and featured regularly in the Champions League. He has been Hungary's first-choice over the past decade, including recent European Championships.
The keeper did not travel to Leipzig's pre-season camp in Austria, a step in Germany viewed as a prelude to his exit. Leipzig have approved the move and will ease his departure as he targets a Spanish chapter.
If completed, this would be Villarreal's first incoming for next season, after focusing on returning loanees and promoting academy talent. The profile fits Iñigo Pérez's needs and comes at an accessible price.
