Sunderland were beaten 4-2 by Liverpool on Saturday night in Nashville, though Régis Le Bris had encouragement to take.

Sunderland Echo notes that there were bright moments for the head coach despite the result.

Le Bris again spread minutes across 22 players, with a more experienced XI drawing the first half 1-1.

Liverpool seized control after the interval against a youthful Sunderland side and pulled away, while Timur Tutierov’s finish was among the highlights.

Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg had little chance with the goals, handled the press confidently and made a smart save before going off midway through the second half.

Nordi Mukiele made enterprising runs from right-back and stayed secure defensively.

Dan Ballard looked strong on his return to action, was booked for a challenge on Rio Ngumoha and stepped out assuredly in possession.

Luke O’Nien was tidy on the ball and produced a fine late block in the half.
