Sunderland suffered their heaviest Premier League defeat of the season as Nottingham Forest ran riot on Friday night. Three goals in 10 minutes before the break left the hosts adrift at the Stadium of Light, and Elliott Anderson added a fifth in stoppage time.
According to Sunderland Echo, the player ratings told the story of a chastening evening for Sunderland.
Goalkeeper Robin Roefs made a few strong early saves, but an error while playing out led to Forest’s second, a pivotal moment. He was rated four.
Nordi Mukiele was below his best and his aggressive positioning was exposed at times before the interval. He was ruled to have fouled Sels in the second half and was sloppier in possession than usual. He argued with fans at half-time. He received a four.
Dan Ballard was unlucky to have a goal ruled out and he cleared numerous set pieces on a day when Sunderland defended them poorly. He was given five.
Omar Alderete was off the pace before the break, too casual and guilty of repeated losses of possession. He improved after half-time, but the contest was long gone by then. He was marked three.
